The Franklin Special Grants & Funding

The Franklin Foundation offers special grants to scientists, mathematicians, and technologists with an invention or innovation certain to redefine their respective areas of industry or enrich the U.S. economy in the long-run.

 

Franklin Scholars Grant provides funding for emerging scientists and innovators to help turn an invention and business concept into reality. This grant is offered to emerging companies and organizations in scientific, technological, or advanced math-based industries to provide seed funding.

 

Franklin Discovery Grant provides funding for the research and development of pantentable technologies that help American businesses compete globally. Discovery grants are made to individuals and teams, through The Franklin Foundation Independent Research & Development Initiative (i-Redi). The following technologies are eligible for this grant:

• American defense technologies
• Energy technologies (clean grid, transmission technologies, efficiency technologies)
• Environmental & Green technologies
• Heavy Security technologies (cryptography, biometrics, heuristics)
• Medical technologies

 

 

Seed Funding provides zero interest debt equity funding for emerging businesses that meet our criteria for American innovation. These companies will provide jobs to the American economy, influence innovation, and have a unique product or service that is certain to have an impact on our nation's economy. Companies must meet the following criteria for seed consideration:

• Start-up business or early stage (less than 1 year in operation).
• Patentable technology, method, or process.
• Business is Scientific, technological, or mathematical in nature, and influences innovation in those areas nationally.
• Operates only in the United States, and will continue to do so under its 5 year business plan.
• Funds will be repaid to the foundation, without interest or additional commission, within 5 years.

Application process

The special grants application process will differ slightly from our regular grants process because these special grants have no specific floor or cap on funding provided. In every case, grant applications will require business plans, financial data, executive summaries and information, as well as in-house interviews by the selection panel.
