Ways you can help:
» As an IndividualParents, congratulations on taking the first step toward ensuring a brighter future for your children!
What is it?
The BrightStart Parent's challenge is the Franklin Foundation's program for parents of school-age children that will provide parents with the information and training necessary to ensure learning continues at home, regardless of your own education level or subject-matter strengths and weaknesses.
How does it work?
The Franklin BrightStart Parent's Challenge will be made available at local community colleges. Parents who take the challenge will attend several free sessions that will meet either on weekends or evenings, providing training on everything from how to help kids with tough math problems to science experiments to try at home which reinforce student's learning.
What can I expect?
Our challenge is structured to provide parents with the building blocks necessary to reinforce critical subject matter thought in school in a fun, intuitive way that engages both parents and children in the learning experience. Parents who accept the BrightStart challenge will have access to year-round events, specially priced local learning attractions, receive a certificate, and will have access to additional assistive materials they can use at home with their children downloadable via the Franklin BrightStart portal.
Why should I do this?
At the Franklin Foundation we know two things for certain; all parents want what's best for their children, and all children are capable of doing well in school. This program is about providing the tools necessary to make learning a 365 day, 24 hour exercise for children without education becoming boring or mundane. By engaging in this program, parents can accomplish two goals; a stronger bond and interaction with their children, and children who are more confident and interested in learning.
How much will this cost?
Through our donations, both corporate and private, and sponsorships from organizations and colleges all over the country, we will be able to provide this at low or no cost to the vast majority of parents willing to take a step toward providing brighter futures for their children.
Are there different programs for different age groups/grades?
Yes. The parent's challenge runs specific programs for parents of children in grades K through 3, 4 through 6, 7 through 8, and High School. Parents of children in different age groups may be able to attend different challenge tracks throughout the course of a calendar year, as the tracks are provided at different times.
When can I start?
The BrightStart Parent's Challenge will begin it's programs in 2010, so stay tuned. The BrightStart newsletter for interested parents will be available in September of this year.
