Introducing the Franklin Foundation

PHILADELPHIA, PA - February 23, 2009 - A new non-profit organization, The Franklin Foundation announced its launch today. The emerging national non-profit is aimed at improving America's innovation base through the advancement of the sciences, technologies, and advanced mathematics in education and society.

"Our nation's economy is not the only thing that is experiencing a downturn right now. Compounding the long-range strength of the economy is our nation's measurable decrease in the production of innovation. Not measured like GDP, but twice as valuable an indicator, our nation's ability to produce innovation relies heavily on the education of future generations as well as on the advancement of research for American companies. The Franklin Foundation is prepared to serve its American community through well-rounded philanthropy, public action, and advanced independent research and development." - Endre Jarraux Walls, Chairman & CEO.

The Franklin Foundation, to be headquartered in Philadelphia, will provide scholarship opportunities to aspiring scientists, technologists, and mathematicians at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels in addition to providing grants and funding for research, patent development, and technology development. One of the foundation's innovative services will involve providing seed funding for emerging American businesses in the scientific or technological sectors. The funding will be provided as funding grants, enabling innovative new American businesses to fully develop or research their idea before taking it to market.

The foundation's Council on Legislative Issues will work with both state and federal legislators in advancing scientific, technological, and related educational priorities. The Foundation's CEO commented on the council's purpose:

"We recognize that oftentimes legislation lies between the development of opportunities that encourage innovation and their effective implementation. We do not plan to use typical Washington lobby techniques to get what we want, instead we will provide information including studies and whitepapers to help us have an impact and educate legislators who are as interested in developing our nation's innovation base as we are."

When asked if the Foundation will be a political action organization, he replied:

"No. If anything, our organization's intent is purple...middle of the isle, middle of the road - our founding principle is the development of long-range solutions, not politicizing issues."

The 29 year old CEO is quite optimistic about the organization's chances at revolutionizing the way Americans think about science, technology, and advanced mathematics, especially where education is involved. The Foundation is dedicated to broadening what they call, America's innovation base - which clearly is a matter of national security, continued economic strength, and presence in an increasingly global marketplace.

ABOUT THE FRANKLIN FOUNDATION: The Franklin Foundation is a non-profit organization who's mission is to promote the invention of new, and innovation of old American technologies and technological processes through the creation and funding of programs, initiatives, and educational opportunities that enhance America’s competitive edge in an increasingly global marketplace.
